I’m not a massive fan of Halo but what I absolutely adore is the theatre mode. It’s a very impressive feature and I wish more games would use. I quite frequently make video game trailers and have to capture game play footage. Most of the time I don’t have the ability to use the code to capture swooping landscape views which is why a majority of the trailers I have created feature a Hud display. I recorded the first 4 minutes of an online campaign match and decided to go back through the recorded game and create a video of sorts summarising the first few minutes of my experience with the game. Check it out below
Analysis
I captured all of the content on my Hauppague HDPVR. As I had no intention of creating video content from this, the entire video is taken from a standard game, not played any differently than anyone would expect. Unfortunately, the sound became a slight issue because there was a great deal of Voice over in the game and it meant that the sound of bullets had to unfortunately be removed. Of course, this could be rectified by overlaying sound bites over the top.
I’m pleased with the final video but it was intentionally made as a video that just showed off the games humorous nature. I want to return and capture enough footage to develop a more serious trailer as this was just my first attempt. The video took in total about 2 hours to create including recording and editing. I’m currently looking through my library of video games to see what games I could experiment in producing a trailer for which will give me the freedom to create a more cinematic trailer. At the moment strong contenders are halo reach, garrys mod, and perhaps Skyrim as I am able to remove the hud display.
